This sandwich is often dinner, but today it’s lunch: toasted bread, PB, sriracha (just a little) and sweet chili sauce, sprouts and radishes. Try it with cucumber, carrot, cilantro, red peppers!

This is my peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Grape jelly. White bread. I had to spread the goodies with a plastic fork. The jelly got on me.

How the hell did it take an hour to crank out this sandwich of lettuce and avocado? Was I supposed to eat the flower? All valid questions that I pondered in the remaining 6 hours of the road trip. Still looking for answers…

Shameful! I lived minutes away from this gem for 4 years and never once had a bite. The Planet Burger had all the right elements: brown rice, roasted nuts, onions and cheese grilled crisp and served on toasted sunflower whole wheat bread with lettuce and fresh tomatoes. I love it when a veggie burger oozes out of the bun and you have to eat half of it with your fork. Shazaaaam! A magic meal in a magic town.
Jaime - 8/16/2009 Firehouse Brewery - Rapid City, SD
Road trip: Day 2. This place was hyped all across the great state of South Dakota using an impressive array of retired fire trucks parked alongside the interstate to attract our attention. We fell for it - hook, ladder and hose - and it was actually a decent veggie burger. Paired with a beer, Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse, this session prepared us for another 8 hours in the car, singing to the Traveling Wilburys.
One complaint: Don’t be fooled by the corn. It was as soggy as if they left it soaking overnight in a tub of warm buttery water. Yuck.

Inn of the Seventh Ray - Topanga, CA
My oldest high school friend, Lessley, came down to LA this weekend with her lovely Galen for a rad visit before they take off for NYC at the end of the month. Less really wanted to see Topanga so we hit up this legendary spot on the epic canyon road; organic, outdoors, toooootally California. Tons of purple and crystals and organza and fairies. I think we got married there, but I’m not sure.
Lessley had the raw chopped vegetable salad, Galen had the cashew crusted tofu with bok choy, onion, miso piquillo and truffle-tamari vinagrette and I had the warm brown rice with avocado, sea vegtables, garlic chips and braggs. Three glasses of reverse osmosis water to wash it down. It tasted as good as it looks.

Combination number 10 - two cheese enchiladas with beans and rice. I believe this stew of cheesiness filled me with gas - perfect for the first day of our road trip.

Golden’s Deli - St. Paul, MN
I eat late. Every day, it seems, I wait until the last minute and then I’m stuck with very few options in downtown St. Small. Well, this here yummy deli just extended their hours and now they close at 8pm (!!) instead of 2pm. Praise-a-luyeah! That’s six more hours of scrumptious sandwiches, every day of the week.

Marino’s Deli - Minneapolis, MN
Back at Marino’s for lunch today — it’s a favorite. Took this to go following some lunchtime errands & ate at the confines of my desk. Got the turkey & swiss build-my-own with their phony Ruffles on the side (they’re better than the real thing, for real). This really hit the spot, and filled the gaping stomach void I carried following a dinner of only popcorn.
